Don't let this joke of a State tell you other wise...We are anything BUT ready for an INBOUND NUKE, let alone a Major TSUNAMI or Category 4 or 5 HURRICANE! If you TRUST your Government Officials to be prepared and protect you in Hawaii...I'm sorry, but you are ALREADY DEAD!
It was like any other morning in Paradise...Sun shining, birds singing, trade winds blowing...THEN IT HAPPENED!
8:08AM...
A NUCLEAR BALLISTIC MISSILE INBOUND TO HAWAII. TAKE SHELTER IMMEDIATELY...THIS IS NOT A DRILL!
WTF are you suppose to do?...Half ass awake I went into SHOCK...and this is coming from someone who is VERY WELL PREPARED for most disasters. This event however...not so much. I can't IMAGINE the PTSD many people, fathers and mothers are experiencing right now today...almost one week after the event because of this ABSOLUTE BLUNDER! I can even see a CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT against the State for this...and you know what...I'D GET ON BOARD. I was scared S#ITLESS! I can't even think about it without my hands shaking right now!
How can you honestly prepare yourself for a NUCLEAR WARHEAD with an 8-10 MILE BLAST RADIUS OF UTTER OBLITERATION and RADIOACTIVE FALLOUT for MILES depending on which way the TRADE WINDS are blowing that day.
8:15AM...
In 7 minutes I was essentially ready, I had everything I needed when it comes to a disaster or emergency in my home. I have been prepared for most disaster events since the 2011 Japanese Tsunami. Most people however are prepared for nothing...literally those will be the majority of citizens here in Hawaii...For them it will be ugly and complete chaos. Just the way it was for some during the false alarm scare.
"So then as my life flashed before me I was thinking...what if I wasn't home...where would I go, what would I do?"
HONESTLY...it was in that moment that UTTER and COMPLETE HOPELESSNESS came upon me, I thought of everyone out there in this mess and said thank God I was home...I was fortunate, I sheltered in place...my pantry, which is at the center of my home, was well planned a head of time and where I had everything I needed for security and survival...I looked over everything in a few minutes to double check and then I crouched down and took a deep breath and closed my eyes.
8:20AM...
I looked at my watch quickly...I didn't have time to sit in front of the TV and find out if this was a real event and then I started looking for info on my phone...by my estimates we all had 5-10 mins until it was over for us! I made a few calls to loved ones and then I couldn't breathe...it was a PANIC ATTACK...We had 10 minutes tops before impact and we didn't know anything, where it was or where it would hit the islands...
8:25AM...
The Missile should have hit us or was about to make impact any moment now...but nothing...WTF was happening?
It wasn't until 38 MINUTES after the original message that we finally got a response that it wasn't real...
38 F@CKING MINUTES!
I was FURIOUS, ANGRY...I felt like I just went to the doctor and he told me I was going to die of cancer by the end of the day and then 38 minutes later he calls me and says sorry that wasn't your test results...I can't imagine how many probably felt like this was their last day on Earth!
BUT THEN...a moment of clarity...it all hit me...Why was I surprised by this? I shouldn't have been surprised this happened at all. This is an accumulation of everything that is wrong with Hawaii...This happened in a State where everything is done HALF ASS and the Officials have honestly become complacent about most issues and concerns the people of Hawaii have.
This incident SERIOUSLY EXPOSED SIGNIFICANT FLAWS in the State’s emergency-alert system, but don't for a minute think the buck stops there...The flaws of this State stem from the highest reaches of Government from political officials to our LEADERLESS MAYOR who has been a complete and utter FAILURE!
This is the same kind of leadership failure when it comes to:
An ILLEGAL RAIL the people never got a chance to vote on
An out of control HOMELESS problem the politicians keep passing the buck on
A HIGH COST OF LIVING the State legislature is doing nothing about
NO AFFORDABLE HOUSING for the hard working middle class family
Putting TOURISTS over the LOCAL PEOPLE
OVER DEVELOPMENT and THEFT of AGRICULTURAL LAND
BILLION DOLLAR DEVELOPERS building REAL ESTATE for MILLIONAIRES,
FOREIGN DEVELOPERS building PROPERTIES for FOREIGNERS.
MUST WE GO ON?
This Missile Alert Flaw is just the TIP of the ICEBERG on what the people of Hawaii are dealing with on a daily basis. The State of HAWAII is run on complete and utter INCOMPETENCE and unless we FORCE and FACILITATE CHANGE we are in a lot of trouble in the near future!
UNFORTUNATELY, just like the Missile mistake, SOME of Hawaii's citizens are giving our Officials in Government more free passes, holding no one accountable for anything...This is why this State is in so much trouble in the first place and why many of the families who live here are suffering and struggling just to survive. 14,000 GOOD HARD WORKING LOCAL FAMILIES left Hawaii this past year and it will get worse next year! It is a disgrace and embarrassment that just several weeks ago a study came out letting us all know that over 30% of HAWAII's FAMILIES DON'T EARN ENOUGH to even COVER BASIC NEEDS!
PLEASE...PLEASE...Let that sink in for a few minutes!
So, is HAWAII ready for DISASTER?
HELL NO...This State isn't ready...so you better be damn ready...and when I say you better be ready, that means you better have a plan...you better have a way to protect yourself, you better have a sustainable food source, you better have an energy source that is self sufficient and self sustainable and you better damn well be ready to take care of yourself and your family!
There's a likely chance YOU ARE NOT! If that's so, let this be your final WAKE UP CALL, because if you can't wake up from a SCARE like this one, you might as well keep bending over and taking it up the Okole!
